I worked on the worksheet
Networking
Name: Yang Lin
Answer the following questions, right on this page. Replace "Place your answer here." with your answer. When done, print off and hand in.
Source: Google search, Define:{work}
What are the two main types of internet connections?Dial up and Broadband
What are the two main types of broadband internet connections?DSL and Cable
What is a router and give an analogy of how it works. An electronic device that connects a local area network (LAN) to a wide area network (WAN) and handles the task of routing messages between the two networks
What is WAN and LAN?WAN is wide area network, works as a connection between computers or networks located in separate cities or area codes.
LAN is local area network, works as local computer network for communication between computers
What is DHCP?Dynamic Host Configuration Protocol - A protocol that lets one device on a local network, known as a DHCP server, assign temporary IP addresses
What is PPPoE and do cable or DSL modems use it?Point to Point Protocol over Ethernet. PPPoE is software that works with a NIC to simulate a dial-up session and allows dynamic IP address assignment. DSL uses it.
Who provides DSL broadband in Canada (Ontario and Quebec)?Bell
What are the four 802.11 standards and their speed?802.11a, this standard operates in the 5GHz range and offers speeds of up to 54Mbps
802.11b, a maximum data transfer rate of 11Mbps and an operating frequency of 2.4GHz
802.11g, signal is in the 2.4GHz range and speeds of up to 54Mbps are attainable
802.11n, some proposals work at up to 540Mbps
What is a network storage hard drive?A harddrive storage that all users accessed to the network may access and save on.
A hub is what?A device used to connect various other devices in a network. Hubs are generally used to connect sections of a LAN to one another, such as connecting computers to a server
When you send a packet of information on a network that uses a hub, who receives the packet?Everyone that is connected to the hub.
What is good about a hub? They are easy to use and require no configuration.
What is bad about a hub? They have collison. Sends info to all connected PCs.
Why does a switch not have collisions like in a hub?It decodes the heading to know the recipient and sends it only towards this one in the case of a connection PC towards PC.
What is a router used for?It connects all your network computer into a LAN, and connects the LAN to WAN.
Draw you home network diagram, like the one bellow. Ensure you include everything that connects to the internet. Label each item (router, hub) and each computer device (Dad’s computer, John’s IPod,…).

EXIT CARD
What do you think should be your midterm mark?
I think my midterm mark should be 100%
Explain why?
I've done all the work. All the circuits that are possible in making, I've made effectively and working. I got 100% on the only quiz we got so far, and I completed all my bloggings. I have a high understanding on the circuit building concept and the concepts we learned so far.
I demonstrate "A very high to outstanding level of achievement.Achievement is above the provincial standard." (page 14, The Ontario Curriculum Grades 9 to 12)

September 06 - Transistor Switch
Transistor Switch:
Since transistors are semi conductors, they need certain circumstances for them to become conductor from an insolator. For example the NPN transistor where it has Negative (electrons) on the first part, Positive (protons) in the middle, and Negative (electrons) on the other end. electricity will not flow through it because the proton acts as a barrier. When electricity is given to the middle, the protons will move up due to the electricity rule, similar charges repel, positive charges attract. When the protons in the middle move, the barrier is moved and electricity is allowed to flow through the transistor from one side to the other, and the circuit is then allowed to have electricity flow through it.

September 06 - PN-Junction
PN-Junction:
When two materials, one being n type as in negatively charged (when there are more electron than proton) and one being p type as in positively charged (more protons than electrons) are placed next to each other. When a voltage is given, one way current will flow through it, because they have a nonconductive layer where the n type and p type silicon attracted and eliminated each other. By manipulating this layer, they allow the junction to be used as diodes where electricity flow one way only.
PN-Junction is made when you place a n type (negatively charged) semi conductor (intermediate betwen insolator and conductor. It can become a great conductor when circumstances for certain semi conductors are met) next to a p type (positively charged) semi conductor in close contact.
